  • How do I book an appointment?
    Call, text, or email to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation if you are unsure about what services you need or to see if my services are right for you. During that time I will ask you for some basic information about yourself and what you are looking to accomplish. If you already know that you are ready to start psychotherapy or you have been referred for neuropsychological evaluation, please email or text to set up an appointment. After your appointment is scheduled, you will receive a welcome email with information about how to log into your portal, complete necessary paperwork, and set up payment.
  • What should I expect during our first psychotherapy session?
    The first appointment focuses on gathering detailed information about your concerns and filling in some history. We will then briefly discuss ideas regarding a treatment plan moving forward. I typically frame the first 3-4 sessions as a "trial period" where we can continue to determine whether or not we are a good fit and refine our goals for therapy. If for any reason we decide not to work together I am happy to provide additional referrals and resources.
  • I've never been to therapy before. How does it "work"?
    Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. Most clients find it incredibly helpful to begin by committing to one session per week to start. Depending on your treatment goals and progress within treatment, you may decrease sessions to biweekly and eventually to monthly ‘check-ins.’ We will openly discuss session frequency throughout treatment as we reassess your goals. Psychotherapy is a fluid and adaptive process.
  • Do you take insurance?
    I am a Medicare provider. However, I do not accept commercial insurance. You may be able to use your “out-of-network” insurance benefits to obtain some reimbursement for services. At the end of each month, I will send you an invoice (also known as a “superbill”) that you can use to file an out-of-network insurance claim. The amount you receive in reimbursement depends on your particular plan and I recommend first calling your insurance company to obtain information regarding your out-of-network benefits. (see below more detailed information about this process).
  • How do I use my out of network benefits to help pay for therapy?
    If you plan to use out-of-network insurance benefits to help with the cost of therapy, I highly recommend that you call your insurance company to get some information before starting therapy. This will help you determine how much of the cost you will incur yourself. Call your insurance provider at the number listed on the back of your insurance card and ask the following questions to get started: What are your mental health benefits (sometimes also called "behavioral health" benefits)? What is the amount of your deductible (the amount of money you have to pay before your insurance company will start to reimburse you) for out of network benefits? Have you already paid any of this deductible? Do you need any kind of pre-authorization or special referral (i.e. from a primary care doctor or your university counseling center)? If yes, what is the process for obtaining this? How much of each therapy session will your insurance provider reimburse (usually given in a percentage or a fixed amount per unit code) for the following CPT/procedure codes: initial appointment - 90791, individual therapy - 90834 or 90837? Are there any limitations to services (i.e., a cap on how much can be spent, number of sessions, reimbursements for only certain diagnoses, etc.)?
  • What are your fees?
    The fee for individual psychotherapy is $185 per session. The fee for couples therapy is $200 per session. The fee for psychological and cognitive assessments can range from $1500-2750 depending on the complexity of the case and the extent of testing required. After we discuss the purpose and goals of your assessment, I will provide you with a fee.
  • How do you accept payment?
    You can pay via credit card, HSA card, debit card, or check. Card payments can be completed online through your patient portal or you can sign up for an autopay option that saves your information and charges your card at midnight following your appointment.
  • How does telehealth work?
    I utilize a HIPPA compliant software that enables secure telehealth video sessions. Telehealth sessions can be done on any electronic device that has audio, video, and internet capabilities, which allows for maximum flexibility. You do not have to download any software. You will receive email and text links and you can also log into your patient portal to access your telehealth appointments.
